Theology - Honours Bachelor of Arts
Hons BA is an NQF-level 8 qualification with a minimum of 120 credits credits and is only presented through distance learning.
Admission requirements
The admission requirement for the BTh Hons degree at the NWU, is a BTh degree or an equivalent qualification in Theology on NQF level 7. For entrance into the BTh Honours study, a average percentage of at least 60% is required in the module(s) at the third level of the first B-degree/degree. A person who has completed a non-theology B-degree and who is interested to register for BTh Hons at the NWU, has the opportunity to do so without the obligation to first complete a BTh degree, by doing B-status. One can thus think of the B-Status as a bridging activity. If a student has successfully completed the B-Status by passing with an average of 60%, the student may apply for the BTh Hons at the NWU. B-Status is not valid as an entrance requirement at other South African universities. Applicants need to apply for non-degree purposes to register for the applicable B-status modules. The student who successfully completed the B-Status, must register for BTh Hons at the NWU within the next five (5) years. Access to BTh Hons will be forfeited from the 6th year after completion of the B-Status modules.

Programmes Outcomes
Students should be able, on the basis of intermediate advanced teaching and learning in Christian Theology, to:
- function effectively in facets of the following: valid interpretation and application of the Bible (with tools), ecclesiastical ministry, pastoral counselling, ethical orientation and establishment of values, community development
- function in a multicultural and international context
- register for an MTh.
Duration of Study
The minimum duration for full-time study is one year, and the maximum duration three years provided that students may apply for an extension of the period in accordance with General Academic Rules.
